Morgan Wallen è l’ultima stella nascente nonché prossima superstar della country music. E’ riuscito a ricavarsi il suo angolo di paradiso in un affollatissimo mercato che sforna nuove proposte a più non posso, nel corso di quello che, senza dubbio, è l’anno più terribile e surreale per il pianeta dall’ultimo conflitto mondiale.

La sua carriera si è dipanata in un lasso di tempo relativamente breve. Dal 2017 ha collezionato certificazioni Gold, Platinum e Multi-Platinum corrispondenti rispettivamente alle vendite di 500 mila, 1 milione e più di 2 milioni di unità vendute, siano esse cd o album. Ottiene la nomination per CMA New Artist of the Year lo scorso anno, conquista la vetta delle classifiche Hot Country Songs e Country Airplay di Billboard sempre nel 2019 con “Whiskey Glasses“.

Ottiene un’altra nomination per l’ACM New Male Artist of the Year. Nominato ai 54° CMA Awards, diventa rising star vincendo New Artist of the Year lo scorso 11 Novembre (con più di 2,5 miliardi di visualizzazioni). FRESCO, MODERNO, AUTENTICO (NON SOLO)

Così viene definito da alcuni nomi celebri della stampa ma sotto i riflettori non c’è solo il cantautore, la prossima superstar: c’è un ragazzo di nemmeno trent’anni che lo scorso maggio viene arrestato per ubriachezza molesta mentre si trova nel bar di Kid Rock a Nashville. In ottobre partecipa ad una festa in Alabama dopo una partita di football: senza indossare la mascherina, ha comportamenti poco ortodossi davanti alla camera che non sono graditi agli executives dello show “Saturday Night Live” che cancellano la sua partecipazione.

Non tace il proprio disappunto riguardo i festeggiamenti per l’elezione di Joe Biden, scrivendo su Instagram “L’ipocrisia è irreale“, insieme alla foto di gente affollata nella strada di fronte al Lafayette Park a Washington D.C. “Se non siete d’accordo con me, bene. Possiamo ancora essere amici. Ma ho una famiglia, una band e uno staff a cui devo dar da mangiare e di cui devo preoccuparmi. Se va bene fare festa per le strade senza “distanziamento sociale”, allora possiamo benissimo organizzare dei concerti proprio ora.”.

Insomma un disastro, al punto che dichiara su Instagram “Credo di dover crescere, penso di essermi perso e di aver cercato gioia nei posti sbagliati, ci devo lavorare sopra”. Speriamo si ravveda, perché a luglio è diventato padre di un maschietto e, si sa, i figli crescono bene se hanno accanto genitori solidi.

PROGETTI PER IL 2021

Non ci sono invece dubbi circa la strada che Wallen vuole percorrere musicalmente. Ha infatti annunciato qualche giorno fa da Instagram il suo secondo lavoro intitolato “Dangerous: The Double Album” previsto in uscita l’8 Gennaio 2021, frutto del lockdown. Nato per scherzo, il doppio cd è il naturale punto di arrivo in un momento di diversa creatività e progettualità. Wallen pesca dal materiale scritto nei due anni precedenti durante i quali infatti ha prodotto un sostanzioso numero di canzoni. Con ben 30 tracce su due dischi, 17 delle quali da lui scritte in collaborazione, Dangerous include una manciata di canzoni già pubblicate, come “More Than My Hometown” (https://youtu.be/MS82JAkBkDY), l’attuale singolo “7 Summers” (https://youtu.be/ZsEjZKNzt9E) e la sua cover di “Cover Me Up” (https://youtu.be/1RnChOf8RTs) di Jason Isbell.

Inoltre, c’è una nuova versione di “Heartless” (https://youtu.be/LOQnx1HBmiI), la collaborazione di Wallen con il produttore elettronico Diplo. Dangerous presenta anche un duetto con Chris Stapleton sulla canzone “Only Thing That’s Gone“, così come un contributo di Eric Church in “Quittin’ Time“.

E’ prevista anche la sua partecipazione al “Proud To Be Right Here” tour di Luke Bryan che dovrebbe prendere il via il 30 Maggio in Ohio e concludersi il 9 Ottobre in California, per un totale di 24 date.

His career unfolded in a relatively short period of time. He was nominated for the CMA New Artist of the Year award last year, and he was also hitting the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts in 2019 with “Whiskey Glasses”. At the 54th CMA Awards, he becomes a rising star by winning New Artist of the Year on November 11 (with more than 2.5 billion views). This is how some top names in the press define Wallen but under the spotlight is not only the country music singer-songwriter and the next superstar: there is a barely 30 year old guy who was arrested last May for drunk and disorderly while in Kid Rock’s bar in Nashville. In October he was at a party in Alabama after a football game: without wearing a mask, his unorthodox behavior in front of the camera was not appreciated by the executives of the show “Saturday Night Live” who cancelled his participation.

Also, he openly manifested his disappointment about Joe Biden’s election celebrations and wrote on Instagram “The hypocrisy is unreal,” along with a photo of people crowded into the street opposite Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C. “If you don’t agree with me, fine. We can still be friends. But I have a family, band, and crew that need to be provided for and taken care of. If it’s OK for us to party in the streets with no ‘social distancing’ then we can book shows right now.” In short, a messy situation, and there he is apologizing on Instagram “I think I have to grow up, I think I’m lost and I’ve been looking for joy in the wrong places, I have to work on it”. Hopefully he’ll come to his senses, because in July he became the father of a boy and, as we know, children grow up well if they have solid parents next to them.

PROJECTS FOR 2021

There is no doubt about Wallen’s musical path. He announced a few days ago on Instagram his second album entitled “Dangerous: The Double Album”, scheduled for release on January 8, 2021, as the result of the lockdown. Started as a joke, the double cd is the natural arrival point in a moment of different creativity and planning.

Wallen draws from the material written in the two previous years during which he produced a substantial number of songs.
