È la città più europea d’America e quella che ha meglio conservato la sua storia, diventando una sintesi perfetta tra il vecchio e il nuovo mondo. Boston ha molti nicknames: la culla della libertà, l’Atene d’America, il centro dell’universo…ma ce n’è uno in particolare che è molto curioso, la città fagiolo, the Bean town!
I fagioli stufati erano un piatto tipico già dei nativi americani, ma nel 1600 nella zona si produceva anche rum che veniva trasportato in Africa e scambiato con gli schiavi. Un altro prodotto che veniva importato era la melassa, necessaria per fare il rum.
A un certo punto qualcuno ebbe l’idea di aggiungere la melassa ai fagioli stufati che diventarono così una specialità di Boston.
HIGHLIGHTS
FREEDOM TRAIL è un percorso di 4km che conduce a 16 siti storici significativi. Si cammina nella storia vivendo un’esperienza unica. Fanno parte del percorso chiese, musei, meeting houses e parchi che raccontano la storia della Rivoluzione Americana.
MUSEUMS – The Museum of Fine Arts ha una straordinaria esposizione di magnifiche opere d’arte. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum è in stile rinascimentale ed è notevole soprattutto il cortile veneziano.
SEAPORT DISTRICT – Al Boston Tea Party Museum vedrete navi del 18mo secolo perfettamente restaurate e vivrete l’esperienza interattiva del Boston Tea Party, evento che cambiò la storia. Nel 1773 i patrioti di Boston, travestiti da nativi americani, gettarono in mare i carichi di tè delle navi per protesta contro la tassazione inglese. Questo evento diede inizio alla Rivoluzione Americana.
BEACON HILL è il quartiere più pittoresco di Boston. Da non perdere Acorn Street, graziosa stradina acciottolata.
YAWKEY WAY è una strada su cui si trova Fenway Park, che prende il nome da Tom Yawkey, precedente presidente dei Boston Red Sox.
EVENTI
Vedere un match dei Boston Red Sox è d’obbligo! Le partite di baseball si svolgono a Fenway Park, stadio antico e storico di Boston.Tanti sono gli eventi musicali in città. A maggio non perdete il Boston Calling Music Festival.
EATING AND DRINKING
Sono tanti i piatti tipici di Boston e dovete assolutamente provarli tutti!
Il locale più storico è lo Union Oyster House, dove potrete gustare un ottimo chowder, l’aragosta e altri piatti a base di pesce. Scegliete il Kennedy Booth, al piano superiore, per un’atmosfera che vi riporterà ai tempi dell’indimenticabile presidente degli Stati Uniti che era solito frequentare questo posto.
Non mancate di provare i baked beans cucinati con la melassa! Naturalmente le birre artigianali locali devono accompagnare i vostri pasti e le vostre fantastiche giornate bostoniane

Baseball matches at Fenway Park are great fun! You may get lucky and see The Boston Red Sox playing a game!There are many musical events, especially in spring and I recommend the Boston Calling Music Festival.
FOOD AND DRINKS
You can find many typical dishes in Boston and spend a lovely time in these amazing restaurants. The Union Oyster House is the most historic restaurant in town, where you can eat delicious chowder and seafood. If you want some genuine atmosphere, take a peak upstairs at the Kennedy Booth, where the president of the States used to sit and have his meals.
Don’t miss trying the famous baked beans which give the city the nickname of Beantown. You can also drink excellent craft beers in many of the bars and restaurants.
